Since 2025, BabeliUM – the Language Centre of the School of Letters, Arts and Human Sciences of the University of Minho – has been a LAPE – Location of Application and Promotion of Exams of the Centre of Assessment and Certification of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE).

CAPLE is the only Portuguese entity that evaluates and certifies written and oral skills of Portuguese as a foreign language (PFL, PLE – Portuguese acronym) for different purposes: studies, access to an academic career, work in different activity sectors, acquisition of Portuguese citizenship, etc. The certification of CAPLE constitutes thus a service to the community in general, contributing to the mobility of citizens and their social insertion in a globalised world.

The CAPLE exams evaluate the skills described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR), in its six levels (A1 to C2), aimed at foreign citizens.
