In 2025, BabeliUM – the Language Centre of the School of Letters, Arts and Human Sciences of the University of Minho – has become a LAPE – Location of Application and Promotion of Exams of the Centre of Assessment and Certification of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE).
CAPLE is the only Portuguese entity that evaluates and certifies written and oral skills of Portuguese as a foreign language (PFL, PLE – Portuguese acronym) for different purposes: studies, access to an academic career, work in different activity sectors, acquisition of Portuguese citizenship, etc. The certification of CAPLE constitutes thus a service to the community in general, contributing to the mobility of citizens and their social insertion in a globalised world.
The CAPLE exams evaluate the skills described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR), in its six levels (A1 to C2), aimed at foreign citizens.
ENROLMENT FOR EXAMS
Enrolment for a CAPLE exam takes place in two stages:
Stage 1: The candidate must fill out the enrolment form, available online on the CAPLE website, and pay the corresponding fee on the same day. They will then receive a code that will allow them to access their exam results.
Stage 2: The candidate must deliver a copy of their original identification document (Citizen Card, Passport or Residence Permit) to LAPE in person or by email to portbabelium@elach.uminho.pt. This will be the document they need to present on the day of the exam.
PUBLICATION OF RESULTS AND COLLECTION OF CERTIFICATES / DIPLOMAS
The results of the exams will be published on the CAPLE website no later than 31 working days from the date the exams are received by CAPLE. To access your results, you must use the code you received after confirming your enrolment.
Certificates or diplomas will be available from LAPE within 15 to 20 working days of the results being published. Certificates can be retrived in person (or by someone presenting a power of attorney from the candidate authorising them to do so) or sent to the candidate by post mail. If you choose the latter option, you must hand in a stamped A4 envelope on the day of the exam, already filled in with your name and postal address, to the LAPE contact person and acknowledge the receipt of the certificate by e-mail. LAPE cannot be held accountable for lost certificates sent by post mail.
