FAQ

WHAT TO DO IF YOU NEED TO USE TRANSLATION SERVICES?

The request must be made online, simply by clicking on “ Quote Request ”. You must fill in all the requested data, specifying the source language (language in which the text is written) and the target language (language into which you want the text to be translated), deadline , thematic area or nature of the work (technical, specialized, legal, certificate, among others), as well as the size / length of the document (approximate number of pages). We also appreciate that you provide us with a direct contact , telephone and/or e-mail, to formalize the request. If in doubt, contact us for tradbabelium@elach.uminho.pt

SHOULD I PROVIDE ANY MORE INFORMATION?

So that we can provide you with the most reliable quote possible , the ideal would be to provide us with the document to be translated , in its original version, in editable or scanned format. Therefore, we request that, together with your request, you attach the referred file (or files) for our analysis and quotation.

HOW IS MY ORDER PROCESSED?

Upon receipt of your request, the applicant will be contacted by email or telephone in order to be informed of the conditions for carrying out the work . In parallel, a quote will also be sent by email, if requested.
The work will only be carried out upon adjudication , by email, of our conditions presented in the budget.

HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE THE COSTS / BENEFITS OF A TRANSLATION AGENCY?

When thinking about a translation agency, try to specify your project as much as possible . Make a list of what is important to you and email or fax the translation team. Clearly explain the nature and specificity of your document .

What working languages are involved? Is it a scientific translation? Is terminology available? Don’t forget to ask the important questions ahead of time. Remember that time constraints can affect the price and accuracy of a translation .

WHY IS THERE SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE IN PRICES IN PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATION?

Different translation agencies have varying strengths and weaknesses and work at different scales. Some issues to consider are:

  • What is the level of experience and training of the translators?
  • Is the translator aware of the technology available to improve accuracy, coherence and consistency throughout the document?
  • Is the review included?
  • Is professional or technical knowledge required?
  • Is there a responsible project manager?
  • Is there a team of translators or just one?

The more questions you ask before accepting the offer, the fewer surprises you’ll have when the project is returned to you.

Does BabeliUM PERFORM TRANSLATIONS ONLY IN PORTUGUESE?

No. As BabeliUM has a team of collaborators who are native speakers of several languages , it can offer a wide range of linguistic combinations , with or without the need for direct use of Portuguese. However, we suggest sending us an email indicating the working languages, as well as the type and specificity of the text/document to be translated.
